It can’t help with individual immigration applications or give advice itself but it can recommend someone who can from its list of approved advisers. Anyone offering immigration who isn’t approved by the OISC is breaking the law, unless they are regulated by a designated professional body such as the Law Society or otherwise exempted by Ministerial Order. The OISC can also take complaints regarding immigration advice, including complaints relating to those it doesn’t regulate. For more details about the OISC, how to make a complaint or to search for a regulated adviser, visit the OISC’s multilingual website.” COMPLAINTS: Complaints about legal advisors may be made by detainees or visitors on their behalf, with the detainee’s permission.
